Modality - Mutable. Third Sign of Spring. Element -
Air.
Gemini is the first Air Sign we encounter. It is a sign of duality, one of
several in the zodiac. Duality can be literal, as it is with the two separate
individuals of Gemini, or internal as with morphed signs such as Capricorn the
goat-fish and Sagitarius, the centaur (Gemini's opposite, quite appropriately!)
The symbol for Gemini is the Twins or the Lovers. It is widely believed that
within each person born with Sun in Gemini are at least two distinct
personalities, often quite different in temperament.
If you were to
apply the morphing technique to the twins of Gemini, you would undoubtedly end
up with a hermaphrodite, which many believe to be the original being, halph
Hermes, half Aphrodite. It conjurs images of the Atum in Egyptian mythology,
known as the Great He-She.
Gemini is known
to be the Zodiac's trickster and prankster, a necessary element to remind more
serious-minded sunsigns not to take life too seriously all the time. They often
retain their youthful good-looks and charm as they get older. Gemini is
changeable, adaptable and flexible. However, in the extreme, this can result in
indecision and waffling with respect to many different aspects of life in which
decisions may be critical.
Ruled by Mercury,
the closest planet to the Sun, the Gemini quickness is legendary. They are not
only quick with their mind, but also with the hands, the part of the body that
Gemini rules (in addition to the arms and Central Nervous System).
Geminis must be careful of arm and hand injuries, as well as their very
high-strung nerves. Often, Geminis need to learn how to relax and actually feel
comfortable doing nothing. Often the Gemini will live the lifetime of three
people in one life, feeling there is not enough time for all the frenzy of
activity he can dream of.
