The C-Meter

Internet beta testing version

The self-extracting zip file for the internet beta version here. It contains 4 files.

Description and Operation

The program works by sending the data from the cmeter over an internet connection to the auditor. As any slightest pause or jitter in the internet connection can result in false dirty needles the data is only shown in graphical format.

The downloadable file above will by default extract into C:\cmeter5 . It contains the programs for both the auditor and pc. The pc program is the standard C-Meter named cmeter5.exe . I have written a separate program for the auditor to use named imeter.exe .

The "pc" should run the program cmeter5.exe . Then click on the internet|preclear connection menu item. A panel will appear showing the local IP address. The auditor should be given this to connect to. One could phone it or use email.

The auditor should run the program imeter.exe . Click on the "connect" menu item. The pc's IP address should be entered in the box marked "Remote IP" or the host address can be entered in remote host. Then click on the "connect" button. If the connect attempt is succesful a message will appear in the memo box on the bottom right of the screen. The pc will get a message "Connection accepted from: (IP address)".

Test signals are sent every second and the return time in thousandths of a second shown in the box on the right.

The auditor then clicks on the "send pc data" item in the commands menu. The PC data should then appear on his screen. The "data in" display at the bottom shows the number of needle data packets received per second. With a perfect connection this would be 50.

The auditor can remotely turn on and off the pc's needle display in the commands menu.

Messages can be typed in the lower of the memo boxes on each screen.

Both programs can be run on the same computer for initial familiarization. One just connects to one's own IP address.
