EMOTONING

Emotoning has roots in the ancient European psycho-spiritual practice of toning. Toning is a healing process said to restore persons to their natural harmonic patterns. Observation shows that it unblocks Qi flow and balances the meridians in a way assisting the clearing of emotions and pain.

Emotoning, using breath and voice, focuses on vowel sounds and pitches in a prolonged way to resonate various areas of the body to release or clear emotions and pain. The sounds used, most often vowels, carry no meaning. In other forms of toning, sighs, groans, and humming have been utilized. Deep breathing is facilitated by Emotoning.

EMOTONING

(1) ALTERNATE NOSTRIL BREATHING: The following breath is meant to balance both hemispheres prior to Emotoning. Pinch your right nostril shut first and inhale and exhale deeply high in your lungs 20 times. Then pinch your left nostril shut and inhale and exhale deeply high in your lungs 20 times. After you have completed the left and right nostril, go to the next step.

(2) CENTRAL MERIDIAN TRACE: Take your right palm and place it on the exact center of the top of your head. Then slowly rub it downward to your groin following the center line of your body. Return again to the very top of your head and repreat this meridian trace two more times.

(3) INHALE AND EXHALE: Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth while utilizing a long sustained tone. After you've exhausted your breath, promptly inhale through you nose and exhale your breath through your mouth. You will be letting go of a long and very sustained sound. Keep this emotoning up for as long as you like.

(4) STAND: Stand with a straight spine and your feet spread shoulder width. Allow your abdomen to relax and let go during this process. Picture your breath/tone rising up through your feet. Let your jaw sag comfortably. When you Emotone, your mouth should be wide open.

(5) EMOTONE A VOWEL: Emotone a vowel on any note of your choice for as long as your breath holds out. Repeat this sound 8 times. Then Emotone the exact same sound on a different note. Remember: We're not trying to be good singers--we're just emotoning.

(6) EMOTONE A SYLLABLE: Emotone a syllable on the same note as the last one. Repeat 8 times. Example: Emotone HU or LAM or OM. Emotone the same syllable on a different note. Repeat this Emotoning 8 times.

(7) NOTICE & SCAN: Notice what Emotone tone attracts you the most and use it again and again while you scan your body for a stuck emotion or physical sensation. When you locate the stuck emotion or physical sensation bring your full attention there with no intention of getting rid of the emotion or physical sensation or keeping it. Simply allow the emotion or physical sensation to be there as you focus upon it and breathe deeply into it with your voice. As you exhale you may allow the emotion or physical sensation to do whatever it desires. As you become more aware of this emotion or physical sensation you may allow your tone or sound to change into this emotion. Allow this to occur sponataneously. You may want to tone low at first and gradually raise the pitch until your emotion or physical sensation is resonated by your tone. There will be a sense of harmony. Generally within minutes or less, you will experience the emotion or physical sensation abruptly blink out or drop away.

TIPS FOR EMOTONING

* As you grow more proficient with Emotoning you might focus on groaning and moaning. These sounds may arrive naturally out of our emotions or even pain. Allow yourself to fully feel these groans and moans with no intention of getting rid of them or keeping them.
Emotions and physical sensations will blink out as you pay attention to them. Sometimes you might experience a jolt or even the tone may turn to strong laughter. Screaming can also work, but you better make sure you have a sound proof room or your neighbors are out for the day.
